Inyo NF and Sequoia NP – August 2017

In August 2017, I went on a backpacking trip with seven other folks including the infamous E. Lambchop.

We headed up to Lone Pine the day before so we could get our permit and be ready for Sunday morning.

Hmmm. I don’t think 65lbs will be that bad. Did we bring all 15 mountain house packs?

Day 1 – Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead to Cottonwood Lakes

We got a leisurely start to the day and everyone settled into the hiking. I quickly realized that I brought too much of all sorts of things. The pack was 62lbs when we weighed at hotel night before.

For this trip I decided to try an inflatable mattress after giving up on them several years earlier. Day 1 was to be the only night I could use it. It got a puncture small enough that it could not be found. Back to foam pads for me.

Can you spot Roxana? Way, way up there is New Army Pass. Part of our path on day 2. We opted to skip Old Army Pass.
