Poppies, Snake, and Water in Creek

It was a long week and I didn’t want to drive anywhere today so decided to ride to Old Camp and check out how much water is in the creek.

Today was also the day Whiting Ranch reopened after all the recent rains here in southern CA. The pond on Sleepy Hollow is full to capacity.

Pond on Sleepy Hollow – Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park

Climbed over to horse stables and up to STT. Not too far up STT saw my first snake for 2019. It was a little rattlesnake about a foot long. I always hope people are paying attention to not run these guys over.

1st CNF ride since all this rain started

I hadn’t ridden in the Cleveland National Forest since before Christmas. There was a break in the rain so I decided to ride Maple Springs to Silverado Motorway with a detour to Modjeska Peak. A few washouts on the Motorway, but surprisingly the trails are in good shape given how much rain has been received this winter (my backyard weather station says 22″ since 10/1/2018).

Did the traditional (for us) route: Noble starting from parking lot off Pine Creek Rd – connector to Pine Creek Rd – Pine Creek Rd to Oak Tree – Fire road in Cuyamaca SP to Indian Creek – Indian Creek to Noble – Noble to Penny Pines area to Big Laguna Trail (BLT) – Around Laguna Meadow over to Old County Rd to top of Agua Dulce – Agua Dulce to Gatos Ravine back to BLT – BLT to Noble and all the way back down.

Maple Springs – Main Divide – Motorway

Got out for a Maple Springs – Silverado Motorway ride before the rain arrived. The views from Main Divide were great. Saw parts of the Holy Fire burn area. Main Divide is closed at 4 Corners headed toward Santiago Peak.

Looking SE from Main Divide. Back side of Modjeska Peak is highest point in photo.

Christmas Tree Farm to Beek’s Place

Knocked off a bit early today to hit Blackstar. Made it from Christmas tree farm to gate at top in 1:01:39.

The moon was coming up as the sun was setting and could see to downtown LA. I like these kind of nights up there.

On the way back down there were frogs out in Hidden Ranch area. I always hope people are paying attention and not running over the wildlife.

Back to tree farm in 1:38 counting time screwing around at top before headed down.
